Picking a billing app for your shop usually starts with one question: what does it actually cost? Marketing pages can make this surprisingly hard to answer, so this post pulls pricing directly from each company's own published pricing page, as of the date this article was written, with the source linked for each figure so you can verify it yourself.
Vyapar
According to Vyapar's own pricing page, the Desktop plus Mobile Silver plan is listed at 7,499 rupees per year, discounted to 4,399 rupees per year at the time of writing. The Gold plan, described as "Most Popular," is listed at 9,099 rupees per year, discounted to 4,799 rupees per year. Vyapar's pricing page also notes that removing the advertisement shown on invoices is a paid-plan feature, meaning the free version of the app displays an ad on your printed invoices unless you upgrade. Khatabook's own website positions it primarily as a free digital bahi khata (ledger) and payment-reminder app, rather than a full GST billing and invoicing product with a comparable paid tier. Its homepage highlights ledger tracking, automated reminders, multi-business management, and its Tally-companion product BizAnalyst, without a visible GST billing pricing plan of the kind Vyapar and myBillBook publish. If your main need is GST-compliant invoicing rather than a simple credit ledger, Khatabook is worth understanding on its own terms rather than assuming it is a like-for-like alternative. Vanij takes a different approach: one all-inclusive plan, with every feature included in every billing option, priced at 299 rupees per month, 2,999 rupees per year, or a one-time 9,999 rupees for Lifetime (launch prices, GST inclusive). There is no separate GST tier, no feature gated behind a higher plan, and the Free plan (unlimited basic billing and udhaar khata, with a small "Created with Vanij" footer line) never expires and never locks your data. The free tier is where the real difference shows
Comparing headline prices is the easy part. What separates these products is what the free version is for.
Some free tiers are a genuine plan someone can run a small shop on. Others are a trial with the clock hidden, or a demo that stops being useful at the exact point your business starts depending on it. Both are legitimate business models, but only one of them is safe to build a month of sales on before you decide.
The specific things to check: does the free version put advertising on documents you hand to customers, is GST billing available on it at all, and is there a cap on customers, products or bills that you will hit quietly rather than be warned about.
Questions to ask before you commit
What does renewal cost, not year one? Introductory pricing is normal. Pricing that rises at renewal, on the same plan, is a different thing, and it is usually not on the pricing page.
Is GST billing part of the product or a higher tier? If you are registered, a plan without GST billing is not cheaper, it is not a plan you can use.
What happens to your data if you stop paying? Covered above, and it matters more than any of the numbers.
Prices on every product mentioned here change, so treat the figures above as correct as of the date on this article and check each company's own pricing page before deciding.
One last thing that never appears on a pricing page: how long the software takes to use. An app that is slightly cheaper but adds thirty seconds to every bill costs you more by the end of a busy month than the difference in subscription. What actually matters when comparing
Sticker price is only part of the picture. It is worth checking, for any app you are considering: does the free tier put an advertisement on your own customer-facing invoices?
